Enter Sandman

I chose the title for this post for 2 reasons. First, because a lot of this dream was me trying to sleep. And second, because two days ago the Yankees won the Pennant and Rivera got the save. Now, on to the dream.

I dreamed about some kind of camp last night, where I was one of the counselors.
To see a counselor or dream that you are one suggests that you are seeking for some support and direction in your life. Pay important attention to what the counselor is saying and/or doing. Your dream is trying to convey a message that you need to think about and possibly act upon.
I didn't recognize where the camp was, but I knew I was in my parents' old home again. Although it didn't look much like it. I was also sharing a room with my sister, and for a good portion of my dream, we were in the bedroom.
To dream that you are in the bedroom signifies aspects of your self that you keep private. It is also indicative of your sexual nature and intimate relations.
Most of the time we were sleeping. Actually, she was sleeping, and I was trying to sleep.
To dream that you are sleeping denotes peace of mind. Alternatively, it may also mean that you are ignorant and not fully aware of the conditions and circumstances around you.

To see others sleeping is often a reflection of yourself and your own unconscious mind. It is indicative of how you may not be alert or informed about a particular situation.

Sleeping may also be synonymous with death in that it beckons renewal and new beginnings.

At one point in the dream, my sister and I were sitting on my parent's bed (in the old house), and a hippo and another animal (I can't remember what it was now. I think a giraffe, but I'm not sure) walk into the room, asking us to do something. That's right, I was talking to animals. I can't remember what it was now they wanted us to do (I think maybe go out?), but when we didn't want to do it, the hippo jumped on the bed, kind of like a dog, and kept begging "please, please!" Also, the hippo resembled more the toy from Hungry Hungry Hippo than it did an actual hippo.
To see a hippopotamus in your dream symbolizes your aggressive nature and your hidden strengths. You have more influence and power than you realize. Alternatively, it indicates that you are being territorial. Perhaps someone is overstepping their boundaries.
More on animals in dreams:
To see animals in your dream, represents your own physical characteristic, primitive desires, and sexual nature, depending on the qualities of the particular animal. Animals symbolizes the untamed and uncivilized aspects of yourself.

To dream that animals can talk, represents superior knowledge. Its message is often some form of wisdom. Alternatively, a talking animal denotes your potential to be all that you can be.

Too bad I can't remember what the hippo was asking me to do, since it is apparently some wise advice.

I've never had dreams in my childhood home growing up, and now it seems many of my dreams are there. Or at least elements of the house are there. It is also possible that I just never noticed it before.

Hold On

Anyone that knows me knows I love lobster. In fact I just had some about a week ago. But I've never dreamt about one. I can't remember a lot about the dreams - I know if you don't recall your dream within about 5 minutes you forget almost all of it - but I do remember that I kept feeling the back of my head and thinking there was a knot or something in my hair, and it turns out, it was a lobster. Well, half of a lobster. The tail was missing. I thought it was dead, but when I finally tried to remove it, it pinched my thumbs with it's claws. And I tried pulling the claws off and they wouldn't come off. And at some point around there the dream ended or I woke up, not really sure which.

So, I guess breaking this down, the first thing I noticed was my hair:
To see hair in your dream, signifies sexual virility, seduction, sensuality, vanity, and health. It is indicative of your attitudes. If your hair is knotted or tangled, then it is symbolic of uncertainty and confusion in your life. You may be unable to think straight.
And then the lobster, in my hair:
To see a lobster in your dream, represents strength and persistence. You will hold your own ground and overcome minor difficulties and problems.
So, there is strength and persistence - the lobster - in the uncertainty and confusion of my life - my knotted hair. There was an element of shock when I realized there was a lobster on my head. I wish I remember how it got there.

I wonder what it means that the lobster was attacking me, and I was trying to destroy it - literally rip it apart.

White Wedding

My friend got married in my dream last night. The interesting thing is that she's been married for several year (and just had her first child) and I wasn't at the wedding because I was in Australia attending graduate school. Not only did she get married, but I (along with all my female cousins and female cousin-in-laws) were in her wedding party. Hmmm....
To see a wedding in your dream symbolizes a new beginning or transition in your current life. It reflects your issues about commitment and independence. Alternatively, your wedding dream refers to feelings of bitterness, sorrow, or death. Such dreams are often negative and highlight some anxiety or fear.
I don't know if color really signifies anything, but just in case - we were wearing purple. A lot of purple. Purple (um, ugly) dresses, with purple hats, complete with those nets women had on their hats years ago to cover their faces, in purple.
Purple is indicative of devotion, healing abilities, loving, kindness, and compassion. It is also the color of royalty, high rank, and dignity.
I also had problems because there were no shoes for me, none of them fit. There were three pairs in a plastic garbage bag, one of which was a pair of flip-flops (made me think that if I ever get married I should wear flip-flops). And then a whole bag of shoes that we couldn't wear. For insurance reasons. Insurance reasons??? I ended up barefoot.
In general, shoes represent your approach to life. It suggests that you are well-grounded or that you are down to earth. It also represents your convictions about your beliefs.
To dream that you are wearing inappropriate shoes for the activity at hand denotes that your progress and path in life will be laborious and ill-prepared. It may also indicate that you are heading on the wrong direction and need to reevaluate your goals.

To dream that you are not wearing any shoes, signifies that you have low self-esteem and a lack of confidence in yourself. You may be dealing with issues concerning your self-identity. It also indicates poverty, lack of mobility, or misunderstanding. Alternatively, it represents your playful attitudes and relaxed, carefree frame of mind. You have a firm grasp and good understanding on a situation. If you dream that you lose your shoes, then it suggests that you may be searching for your identity and finding/exploring who you are.

Getting to the ceremony from the shoe room, my friend rode a donkey and I rode a horse.
To see a donkey in your dream represents your stubbornness and unyielding personality. You are overbearing and unwilling to cooperate with others. The donkey also symbolize menial work. You may be feeling overburdened or stressed.

To see a horse in your dream, symbolizes strength, power, endurance, virility and sexual prowess. It also represents a strong, physical energy. You need to tame the wild forces.

To dream that you go horseback riding indicates that you are in a high position or in a position of power. You possess confidence in your ability. Alternatively, it suggests that you will achieve success through underhanded means. You lack integrity.
Um, ouch.

We had to stop on the way at this remote store, which I think was an old gourmet food shop I used to go to all the time when I was growing up, because my friend wasn't feeling well because she was pregnant and couldn't make it all the way to the ceremony without a bathroom break.
To dream that you are pregnant symbolizes an aspect of yourself or some aspect of your personal life that is growing and developing. You may not be ready to talk about it or act on it. This may also represent the birth of a new idea, direction, project or goal.
And then I woke up. I should do a little more investigating on these dreams I think. Basically I just look up some of the broader elements I remember from my dreams, not really all the details (like the fact that the shoes I could not wear were leopard print - does that actually mean anything, other than I'm subconsciously stuck in the '80's?), but what does it mean when many of these elements were not actually on or happening to me in my dream? Like the wedding, or the pregnancy, or the donkey? Most of the definitions I find assume that I'm the one getting married, or I'm the one riding the donkey or having the baby.

Also, analyzing this dream changed it from a pretty funny dream to a pretty depressing dream.
